The scariest book I have read so far is Just After Sunset, short stories by Stephen King. They were a much more personal, less supernatural form of scary for him, and I find that scariest of all!

The scariest book I remember reading was Patricia Cornwell’s Body Farm. I couldn’t put the stupid book down because it was so good, but I also had to sleep with the lights on. It is a psychological thriller which just kept you guessing as to what was going to happen.

New Twitter follower and retweeted! The scariest book I’ve read was Pet Semetary; while I was reading, at night, by a small bedside lamp, my roommate’s gray striped cat jumped up onto my chest from nowhere – remembering it still makes my heart pound!

I’m a new follower on Twitter. @jenni52743 I’m trying to think of the scariest YA book I have ever read…I guess I don’t read that many…and I don’t read to many paranormal books either! I did go through a phase when I was in middle school and read every Lois Duncan book I could get my hands on so I guess I’d have to say one of those…I’ll go with The Twisted Window.

    +1 Scariest book?

I had an existential crisis at age 8 when I read a short story in one of those collections that were so popular in the 90s. A boy learns his memories of his parents dying and everything else are fabricated. He’s a robot. It FREAKED ME OUT.

+1 for answering the question, what is the scariest book you ever read and why? Or what is your favorite paranormal YA novel or series? My favorite paranormal YA is Twilight. It’s cliche, I know. But there’s just something about that series that sucks you in! (No pun intended, swear).

The most scary book that can also be dubbed as a YA paranormal, that I have ever read would have to be Look for Me by Moonlight by Mary Downing Hahn. I picked up this book, mostly because of the original cover, with the girl buried underneath all the leaves and because the title of this book comes from my favorite poem The Highwaymen, so I knew right away that this book was going to be scary, and it was. The descriptions, the setting, the ghost, and Victor. *shivers* I get scared, just thinking about it.

Right now, my daughter and I are reading the “Mortal Instruments” series … so it’s our favorite (our favorite usually seems to be whatever good series or book we are reading at any given time!)

    I follow on Twitter.

I don’t remember the title, but it was years ago. I belive it was by Dean Koontz. I just remember it had a dark cover. It kept me on the edge of my seat, literally. I had trouble getting to sleep the night I finished it. I just couldn’t quit thinking about it. Books don’t usually do that, so it was really weird.

This book looks like a fun, new twist. Thanks!

scariest book to date would be, the ring by koji suzuki.

I was always really creeped out by Libba Bray’s Gemma Doyle trilogy. I just remember laying in bed at night reading and I would get chills and have to turn on a night light! There is something about her language and imagery that is just fantastically chilling.

I’m a follower of YABookShelf on twitter. I only just started following yesterday though :] AND I would like to say… I RT’d the contest before I knew that RTing gave extra points ;) http://www.twitter.com/juniwolf

+1 Scariest book would have to be Night Runner by Max Turner! The book is set in my home town so it kinda freaks me out.

The scariest YA book I read (and I’m dating myself) was VC Andrews Flowers in the Attic. It was creepy that a mother could do that to her kids, and the whole incest angle was just scary/icky/fascinating. Wow, the 80s. :)

  • http://www.yabookshelf.com Melissa

You aren’t really dating yourself Sherri, though you think you are. I read those books when I was a teen, and they’ve even repackaged them as YA novels now. (I saw some in the teen section of the bookstore one day.) I completely agree with you though that the idea that a mother would do that willingly to her kids and all the rest was quite scary.

Thanks for taking the time to comment…I’m assuming that you don’t want to be entered in the contest to win your own book, but if let me know if I’m wrong. ; )
